Galileo Colt Tops Second Day of Strong Goffs Sale
Breednet - Media Release - Friday, 5 October 2012
A
son of Galileo topped a storming Orby Sale that recorded major increases all
round.
The Tally-Ho Stud consigned colt (Lot 377)(pictured Goffs) , a half-brother to Grade 1 EP
Taylor Stakes winner Lahaleeb and bred by Tom Twomey, was purchased by Form
Bloodstock for €800,000.

It capped a superb sale that witnessed a 47% rise in average, a 38% increase in
median, and a growth in turnover of 33%. The clearance rate was 85% and last
year's top price was surpassed on nine occasions.
Mandore International Agency, purchasers of the €500,000 last lot on Day 1,
went to the half million mark again today when securing Airlie Stud's son of Montjeu
out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Allegretto and closely related to Aussie
Rules (
Lot 253).
This was followed immediately by another Form Bloodstock purchase, Camas Park's
Galileo half-sister to Group performer Tenth Star (
Lot 254) who was sold to Jehan
Malherbe for €470,000.

Commenting at the conclusion of the Orby, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby
said:
"THANK YOU. That is our overwhelming feeling at the end of an excellent two day
Orby Sale. Our first vote of thanks goes to our vendors as they have provided
us with a catalogue of true quality that has been fought over by a diverse and
deep buying bench from all over the world.
On countless occasions in recent times we have sent out a call to Irish
breeders to send us their best and this year we were repaid with a catalogue of
the class, quality and depth equal to any. I am delighted to say that our
vendors have, in turn, been well rewarded by a sale of real strength and
vibrancy that has comfortably surpassed last year's statistics in every area
with a whopping 47% rise in average to over €90,000, a 38% median price
increase and all from an impressive 85% clearance rate which is up 5 points.
It is no secret that last years sale left us a little deflated and we took a
long look at the format for 2012, deciding to really focus on quality to ensure
that the Orby kept its position as a premier sale of the best in Ireland. That
meant we published a smaller catalogue but we were adamant that a certain
standard had to be attained in the short and long term interests of the sale
and stuck to our guns when discussing each yearling in the field. Of course we
could have catalogued the same number as last year but that would have
compromised the sale and it is important the Orby lives up to certain
expectations. Happily that policy has been well and truly vindicated with a set
of figures that have surpassed our most optimistic expectations.
It has been a great pleasure to welcome so many buyers to Kildare Paddocks this
week with visitors from 21 different countries. Our regulars have been quick to
comment on a catalogue that has been a class above recent renewals whilst the
newcomers, and those who haven't been to Goffs for some time, have all stated
how impressed they have been with the consistency of the yearlings on offer.
So many have also been quick to compliment the superb service provided by the
Goffs team alongside our partners at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, and I want
to particularly commend ITM's new General Manager Elaine Hatton who has
immediately worked closely and effectively with us in our quest to attract more
and more overseas buyers to Goffs with impressive results.
The Goffs Orby Sale is Ireland's leading thoroughbred auction and has well and
truly lived up to that billing over the last two days with no less than nine
lots beating last years top price. I repeat our sincere thanks to every client,
however big or small, and look forward to seeing them in the winners'
enclosures around the world".
