Arrowfield stallions were in the thick of the action at Flemington on Saturday with Snitzel and Starcraft siring stakes-winners while stalwarts Redoute's Choice and Flying Spur had near misses.
Few stallions are having a greater run of success than Snitzel of late and the Jason Warren-trained Pronto Pronto who became his sires tenth stakes-winner with his victory in the Listed Vintage Stakes.
It was the second win in 7 starts for the 3yo colt moving his earnings to $152,763. He was a $160,000 purchase out of the Rich Hill draft at the 2011 Karaka Premier Yearling sale.
Pronto Pronto is the third foal of the Darshaan mare Teresa a winning half-sister to Royal Lodge stakes (G2) winner and Group 1 placed Mons.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained
Hallowell Belle has been a grand representative for her sire Starcraft (pictured) and the
4yo mare took some prized scalps in her hard fought victory in the Group II
Gilgai Stakes (1200m).
She defeated the Group 1 winning Redoute's choice mare King's Rose by three-quarters of a length with straight course specialist Spirit Of Boom in third.
Waterhouse's representative Dave Meijer said there were plenty of options for Hallowell Belle over the remainder of the spring.
"We've had some great fillies and mares of late, obviously More Joyous and Tuesday Joy in recent years but she is really going well and it's great to bring Hallowell Belle here," Meijer said.
"The world is her oyster because she can go to 1400 metre fillies and mares races or we can go to a Group I with her."
Previous winner of the Derby Munro Stakes, Hallowell Belle moves her overall record to 3 wins, 6 seconds and 6 thirds from 16 starts for earnings of $782,585. Her multiple stakes placings include a third behind Master Of Design in the Group 1 The Galaxy at Randwick.
A $170,000 purchase by Star Thoroughbreds out of the Three Bridges consignment at the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling sale, Hallowell Belle is the first foal of the Beautiful Crown mare Bella Inez a sister to Caulfield Guineas (G1) winner In Top Swing.
Bella Inez has a 2yo filly by Sebring named Arctic Dream and foaled a three-quarter sister to Hallowell Belle by Star Witness on September 10.
