Ballarat Winner Watch
Tara Madgwick - Thursday, 11 October 2012

The Ballarat meeting on Thursday was abandoned after only three races, but they were all won by lightly raced three year-old maiden winners that are worth noting.

Promising young sire Haradasun added a new winner to his tally in the first race when Kenji Doll saluted in the 1100 metre maiden at her second start.

Trained by Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra, Kenji Doll improved on her unplaced debut last month, travelling up in second place before dashing clear in the straight and then holding off a late challenge to win by a short neck.

Retained to race by her breeders, Kenji Doll is the third winner for stakes-winning Heroicity mare My Jaspa, who died last year.

Kenji Doll is the ninth first crop winner for Coolmore's triple Group I winner Haradasun, whose star three year-old Kabayan captured the Group II ATC Stan Fox Stakes and is aiming towards the Group I VRC Victoria Derby.

Scoring in the second race on the card was three year old Snitzel gelding Hunger, who won the 1400 metre maiden by a length for the Mick Price stable at his second start.

A $100,000 purchase from the Bell View Park Stud draft at the 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Hunger (pictured as a yearling) is the first foal of Hollaback, a metropolitan winning half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) to stakes-placed Absent Friends from Group II winner Lady Mulan.

Breaking the ice at start three in the 1600 metre maiden was another handy type by Swettenham Stud's young sire Host (Arg) in Tronador.

A $36,000 purchase for his trainer Danny Laws from the Oakford Thoroughbred Farm draft at the Magic Millions Adelaide Sale, Tronador overcame a wide gate to score a tenacious three-quarter length win in testing conditions, with the race meeting abandoned after his event.

One of four winners from stakes-placed Tiffany's Best, Tronador is the seventh first crop winner for Host, who is also the sire of last Saturday's Victoria Derby bound stakes-winner Philippi.
