The Australian Second Season Sires Table has taken on a very competitive look as we move into spring with Casino Prince, Haradasun and Host (Chi) all producing exciting stakes-winners with legitimate claims for further spring success.
Haradasun (pictured) is now within a single winner of going to the top of the Australian Second Season Sires table following the win of Kenji Doll at Ballarat on Thursday. The daughter of Haradasun is his sixth individual three-year-old winner in Australia this season.
Having made her debut just under three weeks ago, the Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained filly showed good improvement to take out the 1100m contest in pleasing fashion. Always prominent, she quickened nicely to steal an advantage of a couple of lengths entering the final 200m before idling in front in the closing stages. Kenji Doll is raced by her owner/breeders Peter and Stephen Anastasiou.
To date, the best progeny of champion three-year-old miler Haradasun are led by recent Group II Stan Fox Stakes winner Kabayan, who is amongst the leading fancies for the Group I VRC Derby at Flemington in November.
The Gooree Stud homebred has been a model of consistency to date, winning or placing in five of his six starts, including a second in the G1 TJ Smith Stakes as a two-year-old and earning in excess of $325,000 in prizemoney.
Other performers of note include the progressive Gai Waterhouse trainee Jordan, Darren Weir's impressive recent maiden winner Red Corner and the Trevor Bailey trained Harada Bay, an eye-catching winner of his only three-year-old start to date.
Haradasun currently stands at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $16,500.
Patinack Farm's Casino Prince has a runner in the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas this Saturday in All Too Hard, while his top class filly Longport has covered herself in glory this preparation winning the Group II ATC Tea Rose Stakes and finishing second to Norzita in the Group I ATC Flight Stakes.
Last season's Champion First Season Sire, Casino Prince is giving every indication of going right on with the job.
Swettenham Stud's Host has unbeaten colt Philippi flying his flag with the group I VRC Victoria Derby looming large on his horizon.
With five winners from just 13 starters since August 1, Host has really come from the clouds to make a good impression for a sire that stands at a fee of just $5,000.
