Al Aneed Proves Potential
Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 20 October 2012

Featured as our 'One to Watch' when he won impressively at Sale last month, three year-old More Than Ready (USA) colt Al Aneed posted a valuable Black Type success when saluting in the Listed MRC D'Urban Gothic Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Mick Price trained colt disappointed last start when beaten at Mornington, but the addition of blinkers and a tongue tie, plus the decision to ride him cold, paid dividends in this tougher 1400 metre assignment.

Eased back by Glen Boss from the start, Al Aneed worked his way gradually through the field before taking an inside run over the final furlong to surge home along the rails and claim a three-quarter length win.

"He has shown a lot of ability in his work when he's concentrating, so after last start we decided to change his gear and ride him cold and it's done the job," said Price.

"I think a mile will suit him so the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington on Derby Day and the Sandown Guineas look the right races for him."

Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Al Aneed is a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and has won two of his four starts to date and some $85,000 in prizemoney.

Al Aneed is bred to be good being the first winner for stakes-placed Danehill (USA) mare Al Anood, a half-sister to Group I winner Rafha, the dam of Group I winning sprinter and champion sire Invincible Spirit.

Other Group I winners on the page include Nayarra and Chinese White, so it's a pedigree that will mean stallion potential for Al Aneed if he keeps progressing on the track.

Al Aneed is the 106th stakes-winner for Vinery Stud's More Than Ready (USA) (pictured) and is his eighth stakes-winner bred from a daughter of Danehill.

Al Anood has a lovely yearling colt by High Chaparral (IRE), a colt foal by Street Cry (IRE) and is booked back to High Chaparral again this spring.

The win of Al Aneed made it a race to race double for horses foaled and raised at Coolmore with the first event at Caulfield going to blue-blooded Redoute's Choice filly A Time for Julia, a homebred for John Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds.
