Foaled
recently at Sledmere Stud, Woodman (USA) mare Laetitia produced a full-brother
to Fastnet Rock's Group Three-winning, multiple Group One placed son Stryker, now a promising young sire for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds in Victoria.
Born on 17th October, Sledmere Stud Manager Catriona Murphy described the colt
(pictured) as a, "Lovely athletic colt with plenty of presence and quality. He
has good scope and bone. A lovely attitude and walks just like his full brother
Stryker did as a foal. I very happy with how he is progressing and look forward
to seeing him develop over the next 12 months."
Having had four foals to the races, Laetitia has a 100% stakes performers to
runners ratio, a pretty impressive achievement for a young mare. Her first foal
was the Encosta de Lago gelding Puerto Banus who was the winner of six races
and was stakes placed in Adelaide for trainer Mark Kavanagh.
Next came the Exceed And Excel mare Seeking Attention who was retained to race
by her breeder Mrs Jennifer Mackay, winning five races and recording numerous
stakes performances.
Having now gone to stud herself, the mare has produced a filly and colt, both
by Champion sire Lonhro.
Laetitia's third foal, was a strapping Fastnet Rock colt who made $600,000 at
the 2008 Easter yearling sales when knocked down to Ingham Bloodstock.
Racing as Stryker under the care of Chris Waller, the colt recorded a Group
Three win in the BTC Classic as well as a Listed win in the STC Heritage
Stakes. A runner-up in the Group One Golden Rose behind Denman and in the Group
One Galaxy behind Shellscrape, Stryker retired to stand at Three Bridges Farm
in Victoria where he covered 124 mares last season, his first season at stud.
The fourth foal from the mare, a Flying Spur filly named Casta Laetitia was
unraced, but has produced two fillies at stud, by Tale Of The Cat and New
Approach, while the most recent runner from the mare is the Exceed And Excel gelding
Exceed And Exalt who is in the care of Guy Walter and is the winner of two
races to date including a very good third at only his second career start in
the Group Three Pago Page Stakes.
With a pedigree containing the likes of Group One winners Tuesday Joy, Sunday
Joy, More Joyous, Euphoria, Bentley Biscuit and Thorn Park, Laetitia is a mare
that all stud masters would welcome with open arms to their broodmare band.
