Sharnee Rose, a Winner at Last!
Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 31 October 2012

It's taken 14 starts, but the long wait for Group I placed mare Sharnee Rose to finally win a race is over at last.

This time last year, Sharnee Rose was matching strides with the best of her generation finishing third to Atlantic Jewel and Mosheen in the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas.

However despite her considerable ability, the daughter of Nadeem has struggled to win a race, but dropped back to maiden class for a 1400 metre event at Bendigo on Wednesday she always looked a good thing.

Ridden perfectly by Kerryn McEvoy, Sharnee Rose looked a class above, cruising home to win by four lengths as a red hot favourite.

Trained by Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra for Barry and Midge Griffiths, Sharnee Rose has the overall record of one win and nine placings from 14 starts with prizemoney in excess of $160,000.

Barry Griffiths was on hand to greet Sharnee Rose as she returned to scale.

"Patience is a virtue," he quipped.

"She's always been consistent and has been beaten by some very good horses, so hopefully this will give her the confidence she needs."

A $40,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft during Session II at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Sharnee Rose (pictured as a yearling) was bred by Shadwell Australia and foaled and raised at Yarraman.

She is one of three winners from Farasha, a half-sister by Jeune (GB) to the dam of Group I winner Rewaaya from the family of former leading sire Snippets and Golden Slipper winner Forensics.
