There is no stallion in greater form than Jindera Park's recent acquisition Fast 'N' Famous – the imposing bay represented by stakes doubles two weekends in a row.
Two weeks ago it was Adventador and In Style making headlines and on this weekend past he sired a Waikato treble with Sports Illustrated winning the Gr.2 Isuzu Stakes, Tomorrowland the Listed Shaw's Wire Ropes Sprintand the lightly raced Arrow In The Sand a 1600m event on the same card.
Fast 'N' Famous looks to have even bigger weekends ahead with his recent stakes winners having upcoming Group One aims.
Described by her trainer Murray Baker as "a class act," Sports Illustrated was having her tenth start and recording her fourth win when impressive in the Isuzu Stakes.
Enjoying a good run behind the leader, Sports Illustrated hit the front at the 300m, racing away to win by a soft two lengths.
"She's a very good horse and we have had a bit opinion of her right through," Baker told the NZ Racing Desk.
Jockey Opie Bosson reported that he had been confident throughout the race – I just needed the split and I knew it would be all over," he said.
Half an hour earlier Tomorrowland had been even more dominant winning the Listed Sprint, pouncing on his rivals at the 250m and racing 2¾ lengths clear despite still doing a little wrong.
Having only his seventh start, Tomorrowland recorded his fifth victory and the future looks bright for the Danica Guy trained four-year-old who has next month's Gr.1 Telegraph Handicap firmly in sight.
And after that – a possible trip to Australia for the bay who has done a great job after fracturing his pelvis earlier in the year.
Guy told the NZ Racing Desk that she is looking forward to testing Tomorrowland at Gr.1 level – "I think he can go a long way as he has always shown plenty so it would be nice to give him the opportunity to deliver on that promise."
Kudos to Tomorrowland's owners who took the three Waikato Fast 'N' Famous runners in an all-up – making for a very big day with Arrow In The Sand also in the winners circle.
Having just her seventh start, that Scott Wenn trained four-year-old took the lead at the turn in the 1600m event and kicked strongly to salute by 2½ lengths.
Meanwhile at the Manawatu meeting on the same day Fast 'N' Famous' three-year-old daughter Attention Seeker was a gutsy second in the Gr.3 Eulogy Stakes.
And Fast 'N' Famous' family was also in the news on the weekend with Able Friend the easiest winner on Hong Kong's biggest race day.
A 4¼ length winner of the Gr.1 Hong Kong International Mile, Able Friend was so outstanding that globe-trotting jockey Joao Moreira declared him "the best horse I have sat on."
"He has an amazing turn of foot," he declared with trainer John Moore equally as enthusiastic – "to see the facile win today was just amazing. He's not spending a penny – you just show him daylight and he's got that explosive kick."
Able Friend and Fast 'N' Famous are both members of the prolific Royal News family that has produced so many Group One stars such as Brawny Spirit, Hit The Roof, Global News, Apercu, Joker's Wild, Ivory's Irish, Reward For Effort, Turffontein, Alynda, Penny Gem and this year's NZ Oaks heroine Miss Mossman.
