Winners Flow for Canford Cliffs

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 16
Zoffany (IRE) is not the only young shuttle sire making waves with his first runners in Europe this year with Blue Gum Farm's Canford Cliffs (IRE) posting his ninth winner overnight in the UK.

Canford CliffsTrainer David Barron predicted a bright future for the Canford Cliffs filly Lady Clair after she won impressively on debut at Catterick on Wednesday,

A €55,000 purchase from the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale in May, she took the five-furlong maiden by two and a half lengths from more-experience rivals.

The Kilcarn Stud-bred filly holds an entry in the Group II Lowther Stakes at York and Barron told the Racing Post: "Lady Clair has worked well at home, she´s quick, but they've got to come here and do it, and she´s done that now. She´s a nice filly."

Lady Clair is the first winner for Cape Cross mare Queen of Carthage, a daughter of Group I winner Satwa Queen.

She becomes the ninth winner for Canford Cliffs, whose progeny are headed by Group II winner Painted Cliffs and Group III winner Most Beautiful.

A five-time Group I winner Canford Cliffs returns to Blue Gum Farm at a fee of $13,750 and will have his first Australian runners in the new season.

He has 51 rising two year-olds here, 18 of them selling at the sales this year at an average $57,778. Click here to see who bought them.
