One to Watch – Goulburn

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 6

For a stallion that has never stood in this country Deep Impact has been making quite an impact this season, racking up his fifth Australian winner since August 1 with a blue-blooded Goulburn maiden winner on Tuesday.

Waratah Thoroughbreds homebred filly Himiko jumpd out of the ground at her third start when stepped up to 1600m, travelling more forward this time and leading for home to win by half a length.

A half-sister to stakes-winner Camdus, she is the fourth winner from five foals to race from stakes—winning Elusive Qualit mare Elusive Sparkle (USA), a half-sister to triple Group I winning Kentucky Derby hero and sire Street Sense.

Elusive Sparkle has a two year-old Snitzel filly called Shimmer and Shine a yearling filly by the same sire and has foaled this spring producing a colt by American Pharoah (USA).

Elusive Sparkle was purchased by Waratah Thoroughbreds for $1.2 million at the 2010 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale and has certainly been a good producer with the promise of a lot more to come.

Himiko is the fifth Australian winner this season for Deep Impact joining Group I winner Fierce Impact, Group III placed Bucharest as well as Reaching and Miss Japan, who is another Waratah Thoroughbreds homebred.

The late champion Japanese sire Deep Impact

Deep Impact has just two sons at stud in Australia spring, Saxon Warrior (Jpn) in the Hunter Valley for Coolmore and Tosen Stardom (Jpn) for Woodside Park in Victoria.
