Metro Double for Vancouver

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 14

Metropolitan meetings at Hawkesbury and Bendigo on Wednesday both produced promising debut winners for Golden Slipper winning sire Vancouver with 2YO Aslav scoring at the former and Kiwi blueblood 3YO filly Miss Tainui saluting at the latter.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Miss Tainui was easy in the market but proved much too good for the favoured fillies taking the 1400m maiden by a length.

She travelled smoothly on the fence for John Allen and cruised up on the inside of the favourites to score a decisive win.

A $130,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Ciaron Maher Racing from the Pencarrow Stud draft, Miss Tainui is the seventh winner from seven to race from Madame Echezeaux, a half-sister by Montjeu (IRE) to Group I winner and sire Darci Brahma from Group I Australasian Oaks winner Grand Echezeaux.

It’s also the family of ‘Cups Queen’ Ethereal so it will be no surprise to see Miss Tainui excel over further.

Vancouver has had 34 winners this season.

Vancouver has sired 34 Australian winners this season with only his barn mate Pride of Dubai siring more winners in the second crop sires division.

Vancouver will have a key Group I winner at Randwick on Saturday with his talented three year-old filly Vangelic set to take on older mares in the Group I ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes (1600m).

She was a last start fourth in the Group I ATC Coolmore Classic and has drawn ideally for this assignment in gate two with Tim Clark to ride.
