Ones to Watch – Pakenham
Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 12
Two well-bred colts by champion sires opened their account at Pakenham on Tuesday and both have been nominated for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas.

First to salute was the Ciaron Maher trained Street Cry (IRE) colt Reserve Street, who saluted on debut in the 1200 metre maiden.

Patiently ridden by Luke Nolen, Reserve Street settled off the pace and unwound a late surge to reel in So You Think gelding Woulda Thought So to win by the best part of a length in an eye-catching display.

A $320,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Baramul draft for his trainer and Karl Brown Bloodstock, Reserve Street runs for a big syndicate of stable clients and also his breeder Gerry Harvey.

Reserve Street is the second winner for Encosta de Lago mare Villa Moura, a half-sister to stakes-winner Landlocked from the Christmas Spirit branch of the Denise’s Joy family.

This family has enjoyed past success with Street Cry to producer brilliant Group III winner Chivalry.

Holy Snow as a yearlingTwo races later and it was the turn of Fastnet Rock colt Holy Snow, who carried the Yulong Investments colours to victory in the 1400 metre maiden.

Trained by Mick Price, Holy Snow was prominent in the stewards report in his first two starts when finishing fourth and then second back in May and July with punters happy to send him out a short priced favourite for start number three.

He was last from the gates, but quickly tacked on to settle just worse than midfield for Michael Dee, but was forced to be patient when seeking clear running as the field turned for home.

Holy Snow eventually saw daylight and worked home between runners to score a tenacious neck win over well fancied Sebring colt Yue Fei.

A $260,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Canning Downs draft for Yu Long Investments, Holy Snow is the seventh winner from Group II winner Only Words.
