Can Capitalist Surpass More Than Ready?

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 17

In recent times one of the most dominant first season sires in Australia has been More Than Ready (USA), who would go on to sire over 200 stakes-winners worldwide and this year we are seeing Golden Slipper winner Capitalist give him a run for his money.

Newgate Farm’s Capitalist has been making every post a winner and sired his 15th winner last Saturday as well as siring his 11th stakes horse, read about them here.

Capitalist leads not only the first season sires list, but also the overall Australian 2YO sires list and does so by every parameter leading by winners, earnings and stakes-winners!

His service fee has risen from $44,000 to $99,000 putting him in the elite stallions bracket, so a comparison with other notably successful first season sires such as More Than Ready is well worth investigation.

Capitalist is full of running as we move to the back end of the season.

The statistics below are for all first crop runners (not just Australian) at season’s end, while Capitalist still has two and a half months to improve his tally.

We’ve looked at some other star first season sires in Stratum, who was also Champion 2YO Sire of his year, I Am Invincible, Northern Meteor, Zoustar and Spirit of Boom.
