Graff to Stand at Kitchwin Hills

Media Release - Thursday May 27

Kitchwin Hills are pleased to announce brilliant Group I placed sprinter Graff will join the roster in 2021.

A stunning individual by Group I sire Star Witness, Graff has a very similar profile to exciting young sire Star Turn, who is by the same sire.

A Group II winner that was Group I placed, Graff retires with earnings of $1.3million.

Trained by Kris Lees for much of his career, Graff was an undefeated two year-old winning his first two starts before returning as a spring three year-old to score a dominant victory in the Group III ATC San Domenico Stakes (1100m) a his third race start.

The San Domenico has proven an influential race in recent years with the past five winners of the early season sprint now all at stud with Graff to join Star Turn, Pariah, Exceedance and Anders.

After his San Domenico triumph, Graff finished second on a heavy track to Lean Mean Machine in the Group II ATC Run to the Rose (1200m) and then was third in the Group I ATC Golden Rose (1400m) behind champion colt The Autumn Sun and Zousain.

Graff was held in such high regard that he was selected to run in the $13.5million Everest (1200m) and despite a wide gate and troubled run was still able to finish fifth behind superstar sprinters Redzel and Trapeze Artist.

Graff again took on the best sprinters in the country at his next two runs finishing fourth in the Group I VRC Lightning Stakes (1000m) beaten less than a length behind In Her Time and then fourth in the Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap to Sunlight again beaten just on a length.

Kris Lees was in awe of Graff, at one point declaring, “He is the best colt I’ve ever had anything to do with.”

Graff's explosive turn of foot subsequently saw him defeat 15 individual Group I winners of 34 Group races, a clear demonstration of his elite speed with victory in the Group II MRC Caulfield Sprint (1000m) adding to his record.

Bought as a Magic Millions yearling for $200,000 by renowned judge Alan Bell, who only ever buys the best types, Graff also has a diverse pedigree making him an attractive option for a wide variety of mares. His first two dams are Group III winners and his female pedigree features the blood of legendary sires Sunday Silence and Sir Tristram.

“Graff has Group I speed, an exceptional outcross pedigree and he’s a ripping type, so he meets all the requirements Australian breeders demand,” said Mick Malone.

“He’s priced attractively and given the success and popularity of Star Turn, we believe he’s a horse that makes plenty of appeal.”

Graff will stand for a fee of $13,200 Inc GST in 2021 - Limited Breeding Rights available.

Graff is available for inspection at the Magic Millions Complex on the 27th and 28th of May.
