Loss of Tavistock Highlighted

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 6

Reward for Effort is not the only sire to recently hit 100 Australian winners for the season with Cambridge Stud’s much missed sire Tavistock also achieving the feat, which is not common for NZ based stallions.

The star son of Montjeu has delivered his 100 winners at a rate of 52% winners to runners and has done it with the least runners of any sire in the century club.

Tavistock features prominently on the Breednet Distance Sire Tables for 1600 to 2000m and also 2000m and beyond. His winners include an impressive 10 Australian stakes-winners headed by yet another Group I Derby hero in Johnny Get Angry.

Tragically, Tavistock was lost to the New Zealand industry when he died at the end of 2019 following an interrupted breeding season when he suffered a paddock injury that ultimately led to his death.

His final crop of yearlings will be offered at sales in 2022 and will no doubt be highly sought after.

Tavistock has achieved exactly the sort of success he always promised to deliver.
