One to Watch Kembla

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 8

A filly with a wind issue might be yet another star performer for Tyreel Stud.

The most impressive winner at Kembla on Thursday was three year-old Exosphere filly Perlant, who runs in the colours of her breeder Linda Monds of Tyreel Stud.

Perlant was initially trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace before transferring to Annabel Neasham.

She showed great ability in barrier trials, but disappointed when finishing fourth on debut last December with a wind issue emerging that required surgery.

Interviewed before Perlant’s return on Thursday, Neasham was optimistic about the success of the surgery, but had her fingers crossed that what she was seeing at home in trackwork would be reproduced on raceday.

She need not have worried… Perlant was utterly dominant powering to a three and a quarter length win in the 1000m maiden under her own steam.

Perlant was recorded as a $140,000 Magic Millions sale for Tyreel Stud, but she was obviously returned to her breeder.

Perlant is a half-sister to stakes-winner Champ Elect and is the fourth winner from five to race from Champalou, a winning Encosta de Lago mare from Group I Queensland Oaks winner Vouvray.

Perlant as a yearling.

Champalou was on-sold by Tyreel Stud at the 2020 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale where she was purchased by A Toohey / Rogers Bloodstock for $90,000.

She produced a colt by Epaulette for her new owners last spring and is now in foal to Harry Angel (IRE).

Perlant looks to be a bright prospect for Exosphere, who has transferred from Darley and is now at Oaklands Stud in Queensland standing at a fee of $4,950.
