One to Watch – Saratoga

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 23

Champion sire Fastnet Rock had an eye-catching two year old winner at Saratoga on Thursday that scored a dominant debut victory on the turf.

A homebred for celebrity chef and horse breeder Bobby Flay, the Christophe Clement trained Pizza Bianca looks every inch a Fastnet Rock, being a big powerful bay filly with a neat white star and explosive turn of foot.

Making her debut in a 1 1/16thm maiden, Pizza Bianca settled back in last place early and charged to the line to win by three-quarters of a length.

She is the first winner for White Hot, an unraced Galileo mare that was bought by Bobby Flay for  1,250,000gns as a yearling at the 2014 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

White Hot might not have delivered on the racetrack, but her pedigree as a three-quarter sister to Group I Epsom Derby winner Pour Moi would suggest her offspring may well atone for that shortcoming.

Pizza Bianca is the 78th winner from 107 runners by Fastnet Rock from a daughter of Galileo, the nick producing 21 stakes-winners, eight of them Group I winners.

Pizza Bianca may well add further to the impressive record of this well proven recipe for success.
