Breed to Race – Got to Love Lonhro

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 25

Black and beautiful, charismatic champion racehorse and sire Lonhro has never been priced in the realm of breed to race, but for those broodmare owners harbouring the dream of producing their own black beauty he does have an affordably priced Group I winning son at stud this spring, who had three interesting winners on Saturday.

G1 Golden Rose winner Exosphere stands at Oaklands Stud

Golden Rose winner Exosphere failed to deliver the sort of consistent stakes results needed to keep him on the Darley roster in the Hunter Valley, but he does look well placed at Oaklands Stud in Queensland at a fee of $4,950.

Winner of the Group III Hawkesbury Guineas last season, his four year-old son Exoboom hit top form at Randwick on Saturday to win the open 1400m handicap after a troubled run at his previous outing in the $500,000 Silver Eagle when unplaced, but only beaten a little over two lengths.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Exoboom has already won over $300,000 for Triple Crown Syndications who bought him at Inglis Classic for $70,000, but there may be a lot more to come.

Paul Snowden is optimistic Exoboom has done enough to earn his spot in the $7.5million ATC Golden Eagle at Rosehill on October 30.

“It’s been a preparation to get to a point and it looks achievable now,” Snowden said.

“I hope so because he’ll give it one hell of a shake. As long as we can draw well and those sort of things that line up on the day that are the difference between winning and losing.

“This horse is only starting to come to his top now and that will top him off for next week.”

Also winning for Exosphere in Brisbane on Saturday was promising two year-old filly Exo Lady, who posted her second win in as many starts when scoring easily at Doomben following on from her debut win at Eagle Farm earlier this month.

The Desleigh Forster trained Exo Lady was a $50,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Glenlogan Park draft and has won over $133,000.

Making it a treble of winners on the day for Exosphere was the Godolphin homebred colt Dark Energy, who broke his maiden at Kembla winning by over two lengths at 1600m.

Dark Energy is the sixth winner from Group I winning blue hen Mnemosyne and is a three-quarter brother to Group I winner Impending and also Group I winner Lyre, who are both by Exosphere’s sire Lonhro.
