Australians Active at Deauville

The Freedman brothers, Paul Moroney, Yulong Stud, Dean Hawthorne, China Horse Club, and Australian Bloodstock were active on the opening day of the Arqana Vente D'Élevage at Deauville.

Lot 193 Amabelle (GER) (Danehill Dancer x Antonym by Bahri) Purchaser: Australian Bloodstock €300,000

Unsurprising that Amabelle would catch the eye of Australian Bloodstock.

After all she was in foal to their beloved Melbourne Cup hero Protectionist to whom Amabelle had already left the Group II Diana Trial winner Amazing Grace.

In addition, this is a pedigree well known in Australia. Amabelle’s stakes-winning dam Antonym is a daughter of the multiple Group II winner Annaba (In The Wings) a half-sister to Godolphin’s blue hen Accessories (GB), the dam of Helmet, Epaulette, Bullbars and Pearls.

The Freedman brothers signed for three lots.

Lot 45 Papua (FR) (Mastercraftsman x Mydarshaan by Darshaan) Purchaser. Freedman Brothers €75,000

Still in training, Papua (FR) is a two-time winner in France and stakes-placed in Germany.  

The 4yo daughter of Mastercraftsman is a half-sister to Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Indonesienne (Muhtathir) and Listed winner Lumineux (Motivator) from the family Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks heroine Unforgotten.

Lot 115 Geoffrin (GB) (Dark Angel x Gracefully by Orpen) Purchaser Freedman Brothers €80,000

Three-year-old filly Geoffrin has one second from three starts in France.

The daughter of Dark Angel is a half-sister to four stakes-winners headed by the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes winner Giofra (Dansili) who was runner-up in the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup.

Geoffrin’s dam Gracefully won the Group III Prestige Stakes and was sold for €500,000 at the 2019 Arqana Deauville February Mixed Sale.

Lot 179 Schwesterherz (GER) (Areion x Nouvelle Noblesse by Sinspiel) Purchaser: Freedman Brothers €200,000

The most expensive of the Freedman’s purchases, Schwesterherz (GER) is the winner of three races in France and Germany including a Listed stakes at Baden Baden and is multiple Group III placed.

Still in training, the 4yo daughter of Areion is one of nine winners for the Group III Premio Dormello winner Nouvelle Noblesse, which include three stakes-winners and three stakes-placed winners.

Lot 118 Memphis (GER) (Jukebox Jury x Margarita by Lomitas) Purchaser: Catheryne Bruggeman/ Paul Moroney Bloodstock €155,000

A Listed winner in Germany, Memphis (GER) is twice Group II placed including a neck second in the Group II Premio Oaks d'Italia behind the now Archie Alexander-trained Auyantepui (GB).

Memphis’ stakes-placed dam Margarita is a sister to the Group 1 winner Meridiana.

Lot 122 Polar Sea (GB) (Pivotal x Legerete by Rahy) Purchaser BBA Ireland/ Yulong Investments €345,000

Offered in foal to Bated Breath, Polar Sea is a sister to Listed Prix Matchem Stakes winner Pilote who was runner-up in the Group II Prix Guillaume d'Ornano and group II Prix Eugene Adam, and a half-sister to stakes-placed Esquisse (Dansili).

Polar sea’s dam Legerete won the Group II  Prix de Malleret and placed in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac and Group 1 Prix de l'Opera

This is the family of former shuttler Groom Dancer (Blushing Groom).

Lot 149 Ebiyanza (USA) (More Than Ready x Ebiza by Rock Of Gibraltar) Purchaser: Badgers Bloodstock/ Hawthorne Bloodstock €410,000

From the Aga Khan consignment, the unraced 3yo filly Ebiyanza is a half-sister to Group II Prix Corrida and Group II Prix de Pomone winner Ebairya (Distorted Humor), who runner-up in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, and a half-sister to stakes-winner and multiple Group II placed Edisa (Kitten’s Joy).

Dam Ebiza won the Group II Prix de Royallieu and is a granddaughter of the Group 1 Irish Oaks and Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak winner Ebadiyla.

Lot 117 Stage Call (IRE) (Camelot x Uliana by darshan) Purchaser: China Horse Club €220,000

Offered in foal to the Arc hero Sottsass, stage Call is a half-sister to the stakes-placed winners Intern (Rip Van Winkle) and Festival Princess (Barathea).

The pedigree received an update recently when Festival Princess’ daughter Festival Dancer (Choisir) won the Group III Spring Stakes at Newcastle before finishing third in the Group II Sandown Guineas.
