Leading contender scratched from Caulfield Guineas

The outside gate has been the catalyst to the Caulfield Guineas scratching of the Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott-trained Summer Passage.

The classy colt fared the worst in the Caulfield Guineas barrier draw on Tuesday when drawing the outside gate in the field of 17. He was a $9 chance.

Connections pulled the plug on the Caulfield Guineas on Thursday morning at 8.32am and he will now run next Wednesday at Caulfield in the $350,000 Group III Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m).

Since Wednesday afternoon Summer Passage has firmed from a quote of $26 for the Blue Sapphire Stakes into his current quote of $7 for the three-year-old set weights contest.

Hugh Bowman will ride the son of Snitzel on Wednesday.
