Brilliant Return for Exciting Colt Dubious

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 22
Aquis shared in the ownership of 2018 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Sunlight and will have another top chance in the 2019 rendition with exciting colt Dubious staking his claim for glory at the Gold Coast with a powerful win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Dubious winning the Breeders PlatePrepared by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Dubious won the Group III ATC Breeders Plate at his only start in the spring and again showed top class speed and quality to sit wide and score a neck win in the 1000 metre juvenile event under 59 kg at the freshly resurfaced Eagle Farm track.

Winning rider Michael Walker was happy with the colt and the new track.

"The track felt beautiful … it's brilliant," Walker told Sky Racing.

"I just feel it was spongey, like they were bouncing off it.

"Dubious is a top-class colt and he's going to get better and better."

Dubious clocked 57.34secs on a good surface - similar to what he would have been expected to run on the old track at its best.

Dubious as a yearlingThe son of Not a Single Doubt is now second favourite for the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic behind Unite and Conquer with Ciaron Maher indicating the colt would go down to the Gold Coast for a few gallops to gain experience at the track before his grand final.

A $350,000 Magic Millions purchase for Aquis Farms /Ciaron Maher Bloodstock P/L from the Kitchwin Hills draft, Dubious runs for an all women syndicate headed by Aquis Farm's Mrs Fung and runs in the Aquis colours.

He is the first foal of Suspicieuse (Fr), a stakes-placed half-sister by Elusive City to Group III winner Sediciosa. She has no yearling for the sales this year, but produced a Foxwedge colt in September and is now in foal to Russian Revolution.

Aquis partnered with a number of trainers to purchase yearlings at the Magic Millions in 2018 with Dubious the best of these youngsters to race so far.

Aquis will also be in selling mode at the Gold Coast in 2019 with a quality draft of 18 yearlings, click here to see the draft with images.
