Deep Field Colt Impresses

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 15
Astute trainer Alan Denham has a very bright prospect to keep him inspired over winter with talented Deep Field colt Mocambo charging home to score an eye-catching win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Mocambo as a yearlingA strong winner at Kembla Grange at his second start last month, Mocambo showed the benefit of recent racing when he settled back in the big field of 14 after jumping from a wide gate and when angled into the clear by Corey Brown accelerated impressively.

"He's got plenty of talent," said Corey Brown.

"He took a little while to get going, but once he was in full flight at the furlong he hit the line well. He's a lovely horse, I think they will have a lot of fun with him."

A $100,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Brent Hudson from the Milburn Creek draft, Mocambo won by three-quarters of a length and with two wins from three starts has already won over $56,000 in prizemoney.

Bred by John Muir's Milburn Creek, he is the first winner from Redoute's Choice mare Lady Bligh, a half-sister to stakes-winner Run for Levi from the family of Group I winner Spark of Life, who was also trained by Alan Denham.

Mocambo is one of 14 first crop winners for Newgate Farm's Deep Field, who has earned a fee increase this year and stands at a fee of $44,000.
