Which Sires Will Make Magic?

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 20
The Magic Millions National Weanling Sale is a showcase for first season sire talent and a good performance here invariably shores up bookings for a young sire in his often sticky third season and can inspire new supporters to come on board.

Probably the most interesting thing about this group of sires is the lack of direct Danehill line sires with only three of these horses representing the all conquering sireline in Divine Prophet, Extreme Choice and Sooboog.

The two most expensive sires in the group are poles apart in terms of pedigree and profile with Golden Slipper winner Capitalist (pictured below) the quintessential Australian 2YO speed type, while American Pharoah was the best horse of his generation by a mile and won the US Triple Crown giving him legend status.

What the market makes of these two will be of great interest and while Capitalist ticks all the obvious boxes, it's worth noting the very best recent shuttlers to excel in Australia outside of More Than Ready (USA) and High Chaparral (IRE) are Street Cry (IRE) and Medaglia D'Oro (USA), two high class US dirt track performed horses over longer journeys.

American Profile (pictured below) certainly fits that profile of proven high class success in Australia.
