First Winner for Atlantic Jewel

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 2
She won 10 off 11 starts and is widely thought to be the best horse ever sired by Fastnet Rock, so when four-time Group I winner Atlantic Jewel produces her first winner it's always going to be news.

Pacific Ocean - image Irish Racing Sent to stud in Ireland by her owners Coolmore, Atlantic Jewel has been married to champion sire Galileo and produced her first winner to him overnight in Ireland with a Navan victory for Aidan O'Brien trained three year-old colt Pacific Ocean.

He was runner-up at Cork last time out on May 22 and was ridden positively by Emmet McNamara, leading at a solid clip before being ridden along with two furlongs to go.

Pacific Ocean kept a strong gallop to the line to win the one mile maiden with 17 runners by two and a half lengths at his fourth start.

"He was a little bit lazy in his race today but he's learning from run to run," McNamara told Irish Racing.

"He jumped and travelled smart, I got a breather into him just as he was rounding the bend for home and I was able to keep increasing it all the way to the top then. He found the line well and stayed well.

"He showed a very good, willing attitude. The cheekpieces are on just to help him travel and sharpen him and they did that today.

"He actually is very genuine, it was a nice performance and hopefully he keeps progressing."
