Pinhook Winners Karaka Ready to Run

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 22

The 2019 Karaka Ready to Run Sale achieved strong results and while the average was down slightly on last year, the median remained on a par at $60,000 and the clearance rate of 74% was up, creating opportunity enough to deliver pinhooking success, so let’s take a look at the big winners headed by the sale-topping son of Shamus Award.

This gallop made this colt into the most desirable prospect at this year's Ready to Run at Karaka If you had said when the catalogue was released that the Shamus Award colt from Exchanges would top this sale, you’d have been told ‘you’re dreaming’ in no uncertain terms, but the breeze up sessions changed all that.

Educated and presented for sale by Woburn Farm, he galloped out his furlong in 10.51 seconds, which was one of the fastest times of the gallops, but the clock only tells part of the story, you need to see how he did it.

That gallop was a game changer and made the colt bought out of the Mogumber Park draft at the Perth Magic Millions for $52,000 by Oakwood Farm Molton into one of the most desirable horses at Karaka.

A half-brother to two winners from stakes-placed Domesday mare Exchanges, the colt was bought by Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $550,000 returning over ten times his yearling price!

Sale-topper!

His sire Shamus Award stands at Rosemont Stud in Victoria at a fee of $11,000.

Another youngster to create a big pinhooking return was the Headwater gelding from Red Duchez that made $420,000 for Riversley Park, who bought the youngster from the Parakoola Park draft at Inglis Classic for just $45,000. He is the second foal of Red Duchez, a Dubleo (USA) half-sister to the dam of stakes-winners Ladys Angel and Oxford Poet.

Fastest breeze up of the entire catalogue!

This youngster was another whose fortunes took a sharp upswing following the breeze up session when he galloped his furlong in 10.30, which was the fastest of the entire catalogue.

His sire Headwater stands at Vinery Stud at a fee of $16,500.

Below is a list of the best pinhooks from this sale.
