New Stakes-Winner for Wordsmith

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 22

Tassie owner breeders Paul and Elizabeth Geard have had a lot of success with their Gee Gee horses sired by their own stallion Wordsmith and produced a new stakes-winner at Launceston  on Wednesday evening when Gee Gee Josie won the Listed Elwick Stakes for two year-olds.

The Stuart Gandy trained filly scored a long neck win in the 1100m dash beating Sizzling gelding Hot Relation to take her overall record to two wins from four starts with prizemoney topping $84,000.

Runner-up Hot Relation, third place-getter Entrapped and fourth placed Vivilici all have siblings in upcoming sales.

Gee Gee Josie is a homebred for the Geard’s and is a full sister to Gee Gee Double Dee, who won the Elwick Stakes in 2016 and then went on to win a total of 12 races and over $300,000 in prizemoney.

She is also a full sister to stakes-placed Gee Gees Doublejay and is the seventh winner from seven to race from terrific producer Josies Double, who died in 2018 with Gee Gee Josie her last foal.

Gee Gee Josie is the fifth stakes-winner for Testa Rossa sire Wordsmith, who stands at a fee of $5,500.
