Strong trade at the 2020 New Zealand Yearling Sale Series Book 1 at Karaka this week delivered another huge vote of confidence in the Southern Hemisphere bred progeny of Coolmore's Triple Crown hero American Pharoah, who was the leading first season sire and also overall sire by average.
American Pharoah had six yearlings offered and all were sold at an average $265,833, a sum well above the overall sale average of $138,698.
His top seller was the colt from Posavina that made $575,000 during the first session of the sale for Pencarrow Stud when bought by Mulcaster Bloodstock/Chris Waller, but not that far behind was the colt from Soubrettes that made $360,000 for Curraghmore when secured by former champion trainer Peter Moody.
“I was taken with the American Pharoah’s at the Gold Coast, but couldn’t quiet secure one so I’m really happy to get this colt,” said Peter Moody.
“He’s the second foal of a young stakes-winning mare by High Chaparral and her first foal is a Fastnet Rock 2YO (Toscanini) trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace that was fourth in the Blue Diamond Preview last Saturday.
“I’m very keen to get him home and he’s certainly a horse I’d love to train.”
Moody also secured another American Pharoah colt from proven stakes producer Fleece for $210,000 from the Valachi Downs draft.
The leading Notth American First Season Sire in 2019, American Pharoah was back in Australia again last spring and covered 144 mares at Coolomore at a fee of $66,000.
