Stocks on the Rise

Media Release - Tuesday March 17

Having outstanding recent performers, Jennifer Eccles and Te Akau Shark early in his stud career, it is timely to highlight the success of Windsor Park Stud's stallion Rip Van Winkle.

  • Sire of 12% stakes winners to runners in his SH first crop
  • SH fillies are running at 12.9% stakes winners to runners
  • International sire of 31 stakes winners

Rip Van Winkle is a Mr Versatility siring Gr.1 winners at distances of 1200, 1400, 1600 and 2400 metres.

Jennifer Eccles' explosive turn of foot not only secured her the NZ Oaks but also the NZ Bloodstock Filly Of The Year title with 44.5 points, the highest total achieved in the modern era.

Jennifer Eccles was a dominant winner of the NZ Oaks

Rip Van Winkle is also the sire of ‘boom’ galloper and cult hero Te Akau Shark who has recently taken Australia by storm, showcasing his exceptional finishing speed to win the Gr.1 Chipping Norton Stakes in Sydney.
Te Akau Shark aims up at another Group I this Saturday at Rosehill

A $230,000 Ready To Run graduate, Te Akau Shark heads to this Saturday’s Gr.1 George Ryder Stakes prior to contesting his main Autumn target, the $4 million dollar Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

As a world champion miler himself, Rip Van Winkle’s success comes as no surprise to Windsor Park's stud master Rodney Schick.

Rip Van Winkle

“Both Te Akau Shark and Jennifer Eccles possess the devastating turn of foot that Rip Van Winkle had. He was a super racehorse with a Timeform rating of 134 and to put that in to perspective, that is the same rating as his legendary sire Galileo and 4-times Cox Plate winner Winx,” commented Schick.
