The
powerful Chris Waller stable produced a very smart winner at Warwick Farm on
Wednesday when High Chaparral (IRE) filly Chandana strode away for a very
impressive win at just her second start.
Third on debut at Gosford earlier this month, she improved sharply for James
McDonald when stepped up to 1400 metres, charging home from back in the field
to run right away from the race favourite Crystal Flute.
"She's a very smart filly in the making," McDonald said.
"She's going to be a really lovely filly in six months time."
As with the all the Waller horses, there is no rush to step her up in grade,
although her trainer seems confident she has what it takes.
"We haven't made her get there, she's done it herself," Waller said.
"She's a well bred filly with a lot of upside."
A $200,000 NZB Premier purchase from the Curraghmore Stud draft for her
trainer, Chandana runs for a big group of Waller stable clients.
Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Chandana is the second winner for Bombay, a
juvenile winner by Encosta de Lago from the family of Fastnet Rock.
Her yearling full brother has also been sent across to New Zealand and will be
offered by Curraghmore as Lot 203 at the 2016 NZB Premier Yearling Sale.
Chandana was the second leg of a winning double of bright prospects for High
Chaparral, who scored in the previous race with Stampede. Read about him here.
