Two New Stakes Horses for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 10
Newgate Farm's exciting young sire Deep Field added two new stakes horses to his tally on Saturday with Hawker Hurricane a strong finishing third in the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield and Cosmic Force a fine second in the Listed ATC Lonhro Plate at Warwick Farm.

The Mike Moroney trained Hawker Hurricane won his only previous start when taking out the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat in November last year.

Deep FieldHe has obviously gone ahead further during his break over the summer and showed his ability to match it with the better autumn juveniles in this assignment.

Ridden quietly by Mark Zahra from an outside gate, he found the line strongly to be beaten only a long neck and a neck by I Am Immortal and Shotmaker in a very competitive finish.

Bred by Heath Newton, Hawker Hurricane was a $150,000 Magic Millions purchase out of the Widden Stud draft by Paul Moroney Bloodstock and has already won over $130,000 in his first two starts.

He is the first foal of the Bernardini (USA) mare Bernarsini, a half-sister to dual Group III MRC Sandown Classic winner Mahisara and Group III MRC MRC Moonga Stakes winner Ulmann. Bernarsini had a lovely yearling filly by Super One sell for $120,000 at Magic Millions earlier this year.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt Cosmic Force was also a debut winner in November last year and he too confirmed his stakes potential when resuming from a spell with a solid second in the Listed ATC Lonhro Plate beaten just a length behind the Godolphin runner Bivouac.

Held up for a run at the top of the straight, he may well have finished closer if he'd gotten out earlier and will doubtless take a lot of improvement from the run.

A half-brother to the Group III winner Onemorezeta, Cosmic Force was a $180,000 purchase by China Horse Club Racing / Newgate Farm / WinStar from the Ascot Park draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Bred by Bob Hannon, he is the sixth winner from seven to race out of the Commands mare Little Zeta who is a half-sister to Listed ATC Ming Dynasty Stakes winner and multiple Group placed More Than Great.

Little Zeta is now back in foal to Deep Field, who has 36 entries for the Inglis Classic Sale.
