Fastnet Rock’s champion daughter Via Sistina (IRE) is the best racehorse in the country and she showed us exactly why at Flemington Saturday when overcoming a heavy track and testing conditions to win the $3million Group I VRC Champions Stakes (200m) for the second year in a row.
Fastnet Rock was a crowd pleaser when paraded as a living legend at the Coolmore stallion parade last month, but sadly this spring was to be his last.

Yulong paid 2.7million guineas for top class Group I winning mare Via Sistina (IRE) at the Tattersalls Mares Sale last year and she was worth every penny with the glamour daughter of Fastnet Rock leading home a thrilling trifecta for the stable in the Group I ATC Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick when she outpointed established stable stars Zougotcha and Fangirl.
One of the most potent nicks in the world has been with Fastnet Rock over Galileo mares and we saw it on Saturday in the shape of Group I winner Via Sistina (IRE) and again at Hawkesbury on Thursday in a promising maiden winner from the Ciaron Maher stable.

There were a lot of super expensive mares sold at this year’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, but one that looked well bought at the time was the half-sister to five time Group I winner Imperatriz that was snapped up by boutique Hunter Valley nursery Cressfield for $460,000.
Another Aussie G1 Mare Produces a Royal Ascot Winner
Sea Siren is not the only Group I winning daughter of champion sire Fastnet Rock to produce a Royal Ascot winner this week with 2014 Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Amicus featuring overnight when her five year-old Galileo son Okita Soushi won the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes Handicap (1m4f).
