New Stakes-Winner for Churchill
The Listed Her Majesty’s Plate (1m6f) at Down Royal in Ireland was won by exciting young stayer Perotan, who scored a dominant win over older rivals as favourite.
Legendary sire Galileo posted his 96th Group I winner overnight when Magical Lagoon won the Irish Oaks and two of his sire sons in Frankel and Churchill also posted interesting stakes-winners.

Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick
A massive set of 20 trials at Randwick on the polytrack were run on Friday morning featuring 11 heats won by juveniles including a royally bred Zoustar colt that won by nine, a Churchill (IRE) colt that has class 3YO written all over him and an unraced Snitzel filly from THE family.

Il Grande Gatsby (2c Churchill - Irene Watts, by Miswaki Tern) produced a smart turn of foot to provide first season sire Churchill with success in Wednesday’s seven furlong maiden in Rome.
Stepping up in trip following his debut second last month, the Mario Giorgi-trained colt chased the leaders under Samuele Diana and produced a challenge with two furlongs left to run. Quickening home well, he led in the final furlong and ran on to win by a length and a half.
Owned by TBA Srls, Il Grande Gatsby was bred by out of Group 3 performer Irene Watts, who has a yearling filly by Rock Of Gibraltar.
Churchill himself got off the mark at the second attempt, in the Chesham Stakes no less, and went on to win all his other starts that season, registering five Stakes wins; two of them at Group 1 level. The beautifully-bred son of Galileo returned to complete the English and Irish Guineas double in fine style.
The Acropolis (2c Churchill - Hairy Rocket, by Pivotal) shaped like an exciting prospect when running out an impressive winner of Sunday’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Listowel.
A promising fourth on debut at the Curragh, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was sent off favourite for the six and a half furlong contest. Racing close to the pace under Wayne Lordan, the bay was travelling well with two furlongs left to race and led approaching the final furlong. Running on well, he scored by three and a half lengths comfortably.
Speaking after the race, Lordan said, “He is a fine big strong two-year-old and is a very likeable horse, and always did well at home. The Churchills are very good movers and give you a very good feel.”
Owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Westerberg, The Acropolis was bred by Frank Dunne. Out of Queen Mary Stakes third Hairy Rocket, the smart colt becomes the latest first crop winner by champion two-year-old and dual Guineas victor Churchill.
