Inglis Chairman’s Sale - Mares in Foal to The Autumn Sun

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday April 28

The virtual online Inglis Chairman’s Sale next week is a select offering of premium mares including some in foal to the boom first season horses that captivated Australian breeders last spring in Trapeze Artist (Widden), Justify (Coolmore) and The Autumn Sun (Arrowfield), so in this three part series of stories we’ll take a closer look at those mares.

A Group I winning two year-old and champion three year-old, The Autumn Sun tasted defeat just once in nine starts and won five Group I races ranging in distance from 1400 to 2000m stamping himself as a seriously good racehorse.

The Autumn Sun wins the Caulfield Guineas

By champion sire of sires Redoute’s Choice, The Autumn Sun stood last spring at a fee of $77,000 and covered 167 mares.

There are four mares in foal to The Autumn Sun as listed below.

Lot 23 Windradyne (GB) – Glenesk Thooroughbreds as agent for Bell View Park

"Windradyne was a 550,000gns yearling. On inspection you’ll understand why. She’s a lovely strong sprinting type who is an ideal physical match for The Autumn Sun. It’s worth noting close relations Fas and Silva are both by sons of Danehill. Her breeding history isn’t as bad as it shows. In the 2017 season she missed on one cover to Fastnet Rock (29 October). In 2018 she tested IF twice to Russian Revolution and was negative at 45 days and wasn’t re-covered due to the lateness in the season. In 2019 one cover (1 September) and straight into foal without any issues." - Adam Mackrell, Bell View Park Stud

Lot 35 Cleanup – Glenesk Thoroughbreds

"A high-class proven broodmare via the deeds of her recent Group 1 winning daughter Nettoyer, it is important to point out how well her immediate family has already worked with Redoute’s Choice via her half-sister Group 3 winner She’s Clean (by Redoute’s Choice) and half-brother Floyd (by Not a Single Doubt), as well as Group 1 winners Absolutely and Abbey Marie, both by Redoute’s Choice. Considering this, the fact that she is in-foal to such a top-class son of Redoute’s Choice in The Autumn Sun has the potential to be very significant." - Brett Howard, Glenesk Thoroughbreds

Lot 45 Late Spring (USA) – Luskin Park Stud

Late Spring - click here for more information

"If you are looking for 2YO speed, Late Spring has it in abundance. Luskin Park has obviously had great affinity with mares imported from the US, with Foxwedge having been bred from a mare with a similar profile. Late Spring was a winning and Stakes-placed 2YO who also Stakes-placed on multiple occasions as a 4YO, Late Spring is out of a 2YO-winning black-type mare April Frost. Her 2nd dam is Stakes-winning April Starlight who won two races as a 2YO. She is IF to 5-time G1 winner The Autumn Sun, who was also managed to win in G1 company as a 2YO." - John Whelan, Luskin Park Stud

Lot 61 Centafaith – Rothwell Park

CEntafaith

"She is every breeders dream. She is the dam of Stakes winner and five-time G1-placed mare Fundamentalist who is IF to Zoustar and also in the sale. Centafaith is IF to The Autumn Sun and when doing matings it is great as she is Danehill-free and carries the proven Vain blood that I, and so many other breeders, love." - Scott Irwin, Rothwell Park
