New Stallion for Yarradale

Media Release - Thursday July 24

Proven USA stallion City Place (USA) has been bought to stand at Yarradale Stud this season.

A son of Storm Cat, he has built up a superb 82% winning strike-rate since retiring to stud in Florida.

City PlaceThe City Place announcement comes just a day after Yarradale confirmed it will stand USA shuttler War Chant on a permanent basis in WA.

War Chant's first Sunspeed two year-olds are poised to take advantage of major enhancements to Westspeed commencing in 2014-15. Shoring him up with another established sire completed a busy week for Yarradale owner Ron Sayers.

"With the great new Westspeed Stallions bonus, we want to continue to try and source additional stallions for WA," Sayers said. "City Place throws jump-and-run types and we felt his stock will be well suited to our style of racing."

City Place has sired 8 stakes winners for earnings of $8.31 million from his former base at Hartley-DeRenzo Thoroughbreds in Ocala. Among his best have been La Tia (G3 Arlington Oaks), Wall Street Wonder (G3 Aqueduct Toboggan St) and Central City (LR Pimlico McKay Turf Sprint).

Speed-machine Central City defied running down in the 2010 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs until caught in last stride by Chamberlain Bridge (War Chant).

City Place was unraced but drew praise from Group 1 trainer Kiaran McLaughlin when he was alternating between Dubai and New York for Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Hamdan.

"City Place is one of the fastest horses I've ever trained," McLaughlin said shortly after injury meant an early retirement for the 16hh son of champion sire Storm Cat and Group 1 winning champion Glitter Woman.

Millionaire mare Glitter Woman also foaled Political Force (Unbridled Song) and he earned a start at stud after winning the G1 Suburban Hcp at Belmont.

Yarradale's roster includes USA shuttler Frost Giant (by Storm Cat sire Giant's Causeway) and Gingerbread Man (by Giant's Causeway sire Shamardal).

City Place provides an outcross for Danehill line mares and Yarradale will stand him for a introductory fee of $8,800 (inc gst).
