Breeders Awards Dinner

Six breeding awards for the 2013-14 season were presented at the combined National & NSW Breeding Awards Dinner held at Scone Racecourse on Saturday, August 23, hosted by Thoroughbred Breeders NSW (TBNSW) and Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA). The compère for the evening was popular presenter Caroline Searcy and the guest speaker was Thoroughbred breeder Mark Latham.

Redoute's ChoiceRedoute's Choice (AUS) was the winner of the Champion Sire award and Basil Nolan, President of TBA, presented the magnificent trophy to Arrowfield Stud's John Messara. 

This is the ninth consecutive year in which the premiership has been won by an Australian-bred stallion, commencing in 2006 when the long reign of Redoute's Choice's own sire, Danehill (USA), was broken, and the third time that Redoute's Choice has achieved the Champion Sire title

Mossman (AUS), sire of Golden Slipper winner Mossfun, won the Champion Sire of 2YOs award. Vinery's Peter Orton was on hand to receive the award from Derek Field, Acting Chairman of TBNSW and board member of TBA.

I am Invincible (AUS) was the winner of the Champion Australian First Season Sire award. Co-owners Ray Gall and Yarraman Park's Arthur Mitchell received the trophy from TBNSW board member, Glenn Burrows.

The Australian Stud Book sponsored two awards - the Australian Broodmare of the Year and the NSW Champion Broodmare .

The Australian Broodmare of the Year was Estelle Collection (NZ), dam of Lankan Rupee, the world's highest ranking sprinter. Estelle Collection's owner Coolmore was represented by Shane McGrath who received the trophy from Jacqueline Stewart, Keeper of the Australian Stud Book.

The title of NSW Champion Broodmare was awarded to Regard (AUS) , dam of four time G1 winner Atlantic Jewel, as well as G1 winner Commanding Jewel – her only two living foals before her untimely death in 2011. Michael Ford, former Keeper of the Australian Stud Book, made the presentation to Greg Perry, owner of Regard.

The Aushorse Marketing Australian-Bred Exported Racehorse of the Year Award was won by the breeder of Amber Sky (AUS), winner of the G1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai as well as the Kent & Curwen Centenary Cup in Hong Kong. The award was presented by Aushorse Marketing's Rowena Smith to Arthur Inglis who accepted the trophy on behalf of O E & D R Pope Pty Ltd.
