name but a few.

Most breeders pour untold
hours of dedication into research & selecting the prospective sire that
they feel will best suit their mare, then comes the 11 months of gestation
& hoping that their mare is going to foal safely & produce them a foal
to be proud of, raising the breeder's hopes of sale ring success &
ultimately grand performances on the race track.
Following the safe arrival, the next 18 months or so involves careful nurturing & attention to detail, by the time the following October comes around the foal is now a yearling & for those headed off to the sale ring have likely been scrutinised (possibly several times) by sale company staff or prospective buyers such as the trainers.
It is at this time the anticipation begins to escalate, breeders know by now whether physically their yearling is going to be up to the task of attracting positive attention, but from a pedigree perspective these early barrier trials can be the make or break for breeders that have chosen stallions at varying stages of their careers.
Often the industry is very fickle & early condemnation occurs on a regular basis, recently Northern Meteor would be a great example, privately his service fee was reduced in his 4th season at stud (as to some it appeared as though he may have been struggling with his early 2yo runners), service fees are generally set around the Easter Yearling/Broodmare Sales, to give this perspective, look at the following initial start dates for what proved to be Northern Meteor's successful 1st crop runners;
1. Zoustar , Group 1 winner, 1st start 17th April.
2. Romantic Touch , Group 1 winner, ran 5th of 7 1st Dec, then reappeared also 17th April.
3. Cosmic Endeavour , Group 1 winner, 1st start 15th May.
4. Eurozone , Group 2 winner, 1st start 19th June.
5. Bound For Earth , Group 2 winner, 1st start 24th April.
Only 1 starter, Romantic Touch, before the 2013 Inglis Easter Sale (9th-11th April 2013), & he finished 3rd last!

This hopefully highlights how extraordinarily difficult it is for breeders & how sale success often hinges on early race track performances.
Many other stallions have been in similar positions; other recent similarities that come to mind would be Snitzel & Lonhro, both now champion sires.
Back to the Barrier trials though! Jacob Park Thoroughbreds, regardless of the
outcome, can gain some satisfaction that they will be represented by 2 horses

& by Darley stallion Ad Valorem, I'm Jester Gal was sold this year in foal
to I Am Invincible to Western Australian breeder Phil Abbotson for $50,000.00,
& we will have a gorgeous ¾ sister by Dane Shadow selling at the 2015
Inglis Classic, this is the reason why so many can be affected by just one
result!

the O'Reilly mare Laughter he also sold at the Inglis Classic to clients of Bede
Murray for $100,000.00, our vendor was Middlebrook Valley Lodge. Laughter was
sold privately 2 seasons ago to Aaron Bott, so again many will have an interest
in the big boy!
It's not hard to see why we're a little chuffed when you consider the following; Jacob Park Thoroughbreds only sold 3 yearlings in the main sales with another 3 being sold in June, then if you take into consideration there were 15,003 live foals born in 2012 it makes our effort look pretty good.
