American Pharoah Filly Wins G3 Regret Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 28

Coolmore's Triple Crown hero American Pharoah (USA) has been running hot in the Northern Hemisphere posting his third Group winner in the past 10 days at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Quality filly Harvey’s Lil Goil won the Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct earlier in the year and took another step forward when taking out the $100,000 Group III Regret Stakes (1 and 1/8thm) on turf .

Trained by Bill Mott for the estate of her breeder Harvey Clarke and co-owner Paul Braverman, Harvey’s Lil Goil stalked the pace and was tenacious to the line in winning by a head.

“I thought we were in a little bit of trouble when Johnny (Velazquez) dove to the rail,” said Mott’s assistant Kenny McCarthy. “However, when she got to her late in the stretch, she was able to fight back. She’s a very classy filly and now sports multiple stakes wins on both the dirt and the turf.”

Harvey’s Lil Goil has the overall record of three wins from just five starts earning over $150,000.

Harvey’s Lil Goil’s is the third winner from Gloria S, a half-sister by Tapit to Champion 3-Year-Old and Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another and Grade III winner Golden Award.

She is the third Group winner for American Pharoah in the past 10 days joining Café Unicorn (Japan) and Sweet Melania (USA).
