Sunlight Headlines Quality Magic Mares from Widden

Media Release - Sunday July 19

Widden Stud will offer an outstanding consignment of 30 mares at the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and while their champion racemare Sunlight is in a class of her own, there is plenty of depth in the draft with a selection of mares in foal to the farm’s young guns sires Trapeze Artist and Written By.

It is anticipated all mares will be available for inspection at the Gold Coast by Friday subject to COVID protocols, however on farm inspections are being encouraged in case the situation changes and we have a comprehesive guide to all of the mares on our website.

It’s not the first time Widden have taken Sunlight to the Magic Millions sales complex as they sold her at the Gold Coast as a yearling back in 2017 for $300,000.

Since then she has taker her owners, who include Widden Stud’s Katie Thompson, on the ride of a lifetime winning over $6.5million in prizemoney.

A brilliant winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Sunlight trained on as a three and four year-old under the care of Tony McEvoy to claim Group I victories in the VRC Newmarket Handicap, Coolmore Stud Stakes and MVRC William Reid Stakes.

Bred in partnership by Widden and raced by a large syndicate of owners, Sunlight (Lot 80)  is the flagbearer for her sire Zoustar and while it’s going to be painful to say goodbye to a champion, the team at Widden will look forward to watching the next phase of her career unfolds.
