Pierro Influence Highlighted at MM Mares on Tuesday

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 28

The second session of the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast on Tuesday was highlighted by Godolphin selling a full sister to Pierro that fetched $1,050,000, while mares in foal to the outstanding young sire were also in demand.

Godolphin famously sold Pierro as a weanling at this sale back in 2010 for just $115,000 and it’s now history that he was re-offered as a yearling by Musk Creek Farm at the Gold Coast the following year and snapped up by Gai Waterhouse for $230,000.

Right Chord was the top lot on Tuesday selling for $1,050,000

A champion on the track and now a top class sire at Coolmore standing for $137,500, Pierro would be seen by many as the one that got away for Sheikh Mohammed, but in selling his unraced sister Right Chord for seven figures today they have gotten a little pay back.

A four year-old daughter of champion sire Lonhro, Right Chord was offered in foal to Exceed and Excel in her first season at stud and was bought by James Harron Bloodstock.

Godolphin are already breeding with three other siblings to Pierro in Snow White, Ambience and Smooth, while a fourth Madrigals, was sold at this sale in 2017 for $425,000 and has joined the Arrowfield Stud broodmare band.

Madrigals is certainly being given every chance of success as she has a yearling filly by Deep Impact, a weanling colt by Snitzel and is in foal to I Am Invincible.

Pierro’s dam Miss Right Note (GB) is still going strong and has a two year-old Lonhro filly called Pensato that has raced twice, a yearling colt by Street Boss (USA) and a weanling colt by Impending, but missed last year to Lonhro.

Mares in foal to Pierro  were also in hot demand with dual Group III winner Pecans fetching $560,000 for Yarraman Park when knocked down to A List Group Holdings in her first season at stud.
