The star son of Redoute's Choice produced the two highest priced horses of the sale so far, his colt (pictured below Steve Hart) from Admirelle fetching $2.2 million for Milburn Creek when secured by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa and his colt from champion filly Alinghi making $1.8 million for Arrowfield when bought by David Raphael and Gerald Ryan, who of course trained his sire.
The Admirelle colt is a full brother to the former brilliant Group I winner Sizzling, who now stands at Newgate Farm and covered 175 mares last year in his first season at a fee of $16,500.
The two sales brought a new high for Snitzel, whose previous best result was $1.5 million at this sale last year which was paid for the full brother to Group I Snitzerland.
Snitzel's sale average soared to $414,583 for 24 yearlings sold, an incredible return when you consider these yearlings were conceived at a fee of just $33,000.
Snitzel has had subsequent fee increases going to $49,500 in 2013 and $71,500 last year and has done more than enough in the past 12 months to warrant another fee hike this year.
As well as Snitzel went, it was not enough to send him to the top of the sires by average list which after two sessions is still headed by Fasnet Rock with 36 yearlings averaging $498,056 and Street Cry (IRE) with seven averaging $495,000.
The star performers for Fastnet Rock on Wednesday were a stunning filly from Candlelight (USA) that made $1.75 million foe Segenhoe Stud when secured by Coolmore and a top class colt from Wiener that made $1.35 million for Kitchwin Hills when bought by Gai Waterhouse/Coolmore/Stonestreet Stables.
The filly from Candlelight provides another great result for our Golden Slipper winning breeder John Camilleri of Fairway Thoroughbreds.
The most expensive filly sold so far at this sale, she is the first Australian bred foal from the winning Kingmambo mare Candlelight, a three-quarter sister to Group I winner and very good US sire Grand Slam.
Golden Slipper winner Sepoy kicked the big goal for the first season sires when his colt from Group I winning sprinter Ancient Song fetched $1.6 million for Turangga Farm when bought by James Harron Bloodstock. Click here to read more about him.
A powerful chestnut stamped in the mould of his sire, the colt is a half-brother to stakes-winner Tampiko.
