Aussie Winner in South Africa

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 15

Opening his account with an easy win at Turffontein on Saturday was three year-old Medaglia D’Oro (USA) colt Al Qaqaa.

A homebred for Sheikh Hamdan trained by Mike de Kock, Al Qaqaa scored a dominant two length win in the 1400 metre maiden at his second start after finishing third on debut earlier this month.

Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park for Shadwell, Al Qaqaa is the first foal for stakes-winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Haybah, who comes from the family of dual Derby hero Rebel Raider.

Her second foal is a Nicconi colt that was sold as a weanling for $5,000 and then made $90,000 at Inglis Premier this year for Waterford Livestock when bought by Lindsay Park Racing / Andrew Williams Bloodstock.

Haybah is now in foal to Deep Field.
