Inglis Great Southern to Showcase New Stallions

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 16
Melbourne Cup hero Americain (USA) has been a popular addition to the roster at Swettenham Stud covering some 288 mares in his first two seasons at stud and his first weanlings will attract much interest at the upcoming Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale starting this Sunday, June 21.

Tall and imposing, Americain is an elegant style of thoroughbred representing the Roberto sireline through champion sire Dynaformer, so is somewhat of a departure from the steady stream of Danehill line sprinter milers that retire to stud each spring.

Victorian breeders have seized the opportunity to go down a slightly different path with Americain and this sale will be the first test of how that will play in the commercial arena.

Americain has nine youngsters catalogued, all of them to be offered in the Platinum Sessions and to see their pedigrees, click here.

They include:

Lot 106 Colt Americain (USA) x North East Note – Swettenham Stud

Third foal of a half-sister to stakes-winner Berlioz from the Cotehele House branch of the Eight Carat family that has given us the likes of Danewin, Commands, Shooting to Win and Deep Field.

Lot 206 Colt Americain (USA) x Apologies – Burnewang North

Half-brother to two winners from the family of Group I winners Nothin; Leica Dane, Leica Smile and Redding.

Lucas CranachAnother newcomer to the Victorian stallion ranks has been high class imported stayer Lucas Cranach (Ger), who was third in the 2011 Melbourne Cup in which Americain finished fourth to Dunaden.

Retired to Malcom Boyd's Bullarook Park Stud, Lucas Cranach has also received good opportunity covering 200 mares in his first two seasons.

"His foals coming down to Oaklands are outstanding – they're all similar types – I can't fault them," said Malcolm Boyd.

"I'm sure the numbers will keep coming for Lucas Cranach after people see his weanlings at Oaklands."

Lucas Cranach has seven entries for this sale, all of them offered by Bullarook Park Stud and to see the pedigrees, click here.

Although he doesn't stand in Victoria, the Bowness Stud based Bullet Train (GB) is easily the most represented sire at this sale with 19 entries for the three-quarter brother to world champion racehorse Frankel.

A Group III winner by Sadler's Wells, Bullet Train has already made an impression at earlier weanling sales with three youngsters averaging $46,667 at the Inglis Australian Select Weanling Sale in Sydney and a further seven averaging $42,000 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
