Kingman Colt Bounces Back

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 26

Invincible Spirit stallion Kingman is one of the hottest young sires in Europe and he has a bright prospect here in talented colt Kingsheir (GB), who won his second race from three starts when scoring at Randwick on Wednesday.

Prepared by Team Hawkes, the Orbis Bloodstock owned Northern Hemisphere bred three year-old won on debut at Newcastle before finishing third on a bottomless heavy track at Warwick Farm two weeks ago as hot favoruite.

Punters were prepared to forgive him that defeat and sent him out favourite again on a better surface in the Benchmark 72 event over 1550m and he duly delivered.

Kingsheir hit the line hard to win pulling away by a length under James McDonald.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes was relieved to see Kingsheir back on track.

“He’s still learning his craft and it was just too wet for him at Warwick Farm, so it was good to see him do that on a better surface here today,” said Michael Hawkes.

“It just depends on how he pulls up as to where we go and what we do next.”

A 110,000 euro purchase from the 2018 Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale, Kingsheir is the second winner from Rose Memory, a half-sister by Elusive City to Group II winner Hard Dream.

With his oldest progeny just four year-olds, Kingman has already sired 23 stakes-winners headed by Group I winning milers Persian King and Palace Pier and has the perfect record in Australia with three winners from three starters.
