Last Tycoon Legacy Lives On

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 28

Outside of Danehill (USA), only two shuttle stallions have ever taken the title of Champion Australian Sire by earnings, one of them is Street Cry (IRE) and the other is Last Tycoon (IRE).

The Champion Australian Sire in 1993/1994, Last Tycoon has emerged as a powerful influence through his sire sons and grand-sons.

Last Tycoon died in 2006.

His champion New Zealand based son O’Reilly is currently the leading Australian broodmare sire by stakes-winners, siring the dam of five stakes-winners, plus one in New Zealand, this season.

O’Reilly is the sire of the dams of Group II winner Subpoenaed, Golden Rose runner-up and Group III winner North Pacific, unbeaten stakes-winner Mo’Unga and stakes-winners Saracino and Snitzkraft.

On the Australian General Sires List by earnings, Last Tycoon’s grand-son Written Tycoon is leading the way by earnings following a brilliant weekend that saw him sire two Group I winners in Ole Kirk and Pippie.

Last Tycoon departed Australia for the last time back in January 2003, but the legacy he has left behind will ensure he’s not forgotten for many years to come.
