Wish Upon a Star - Capricornia Yearling Sale

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 28
When Jiminy Cricket sung those famous words "When you wish upon a star - Makes no difference who you are", he could well have been singing to the buyers and graduates from the Capricornia Yearling Sale.

A loyal buying bench comes together each year wishing for their chance to win the sale race series and when we consider the 2YO Classic winners recently, it really doesn't seem to matter who they are, in terms of sale price and breeding.

Arcup (Encores) sold for $5000 and won $96,975, River Lad (Top Echelon) passed in for only $4000 and won $1,778,000, Bonny The Viper (Garrison Savannah) fetched $6500 and won $144,500, Zerocity (Ferocity) $9000 won $111,400, Mythologist (Hidden Dragon) cost $18,000 and has won $256850, Quick Assault (Teranaba) a mere $1000 but has won $96,800 and lastly The Lads My Dad (Daunting Lad) cost $4500 but has won $103,800 and some of these graduates are still going strong.

This year's graduates will be able to compete in three exclusive sale races.

The 2YO is worth $100000, the 3YO $50000 and the new 3&4YO $50000 will give them a third chance to take home some decent prizemoney in terms of provincial racing. QTIS bonuses will also be paid where eligible.

Love Conquers AllOur sale this year brings together some popular, well performed and fresh face sires.

Sidereus and Love Conquers All are currently leading the national results for new season 2YO sires and both have quality yearlings in this sale.

Captain Sonador and Wicked Style are both well represented and the new season sires Golden Archer and Instinction will be joined by Rockhampton's best credentialed sire for many years, Carrara.

Both Golden Archer and Carrara are Group and Stakes winners with solid 2YO form against the best the country had to offer at the time.

The six yearlings from Longhorn are sure to attract a lot of interest as one of his best performed son's Daph n Alf races in the CQ area and the stallion has had 32 runners for 22 winners when the catalogue went to print. Add Daunting Lad, Drumbeats, Man of Illusion, Exceedingly Good, Hemingway, Red Element, Hidden Dragon, Al Maher, Starcraft, Snippetson, All American etc to the list and there is a great and diverse line up of yearlings in this sale.

The Love Conquers All yearlings both have real Queensland champion maternal lines closely linked to the Show a Heart and Chief De Beers families. Lot 87's (Love Conquers All x Mal De Mer)dam has now produced six winners including the recent 2YO winner Diamonds 'N' Roses (Magic Albert x Mal De Mer) who won at Ipswich two weeks ago.

Past winners of the CYS 2YO Classic are represented by the dams Kai Anna and Kai Chow with Lot 83 (Seidnazar x Kai Chow) having a half sibling, Security Belle, who has won her only three starts in Rockhampton and will be one of the favourites for this year's 2YO Classic.

Lot 22 (Ferocity x Shezabon) is a full sister to the locally trained Helarocity who won his only three 2YO starts before being injured.

Bagus - Trackside PhotographyThis is just a few of the quality dams that are liberally sprinkled across the pages of this year's catalogue.

We have already produced 2YO Metro winners recently in No Problem and Looks Like The Cat. However the best may yet to come in the shape of the Jet Spur filly, Bagus.

A winner of her first two starts at Ipswich and Doomben Saturday meetings she went for a break and resumed in the Cascade QTIS 2YO at Doomben on Saturday 26thMarch.

This race has produced Brisbane Winter Carnival 2YO winners in the past and Bagus went down by the barest of margins, running second to Nicconi Leggera.

Astute trainer Kelly Schweida purchased Bagus for the bargain price of only $15,000 at last year's Capricornia Yearling Sale and she has now won $125,000 from her only three starts.

Connections will be considering her immediate racing future, but with $132000 in prizemoney and bonuses on offer in this year's 2YO CYS Classic a trip north must be looking an attractive option.

This year's sale will be held on the 10th of April with a two-day racing carnival leading up to it packed with sale and race related activities.
