One to Watch - Ipswich

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 17

It was only a three horse juvenile race at Ipswich on a Thursday, but when the winner is by All Too Hard and trained by David Vandyke, you tend to get a bit more interested!

Vandyke put the polish on All Too Hard’s first Group I winner Alligator Blood and while he no longer trains the four year-old gelding, he does have a very nice youngster in his stable by the same sire in Keefy.

A $105,000 Inglis Classic purchase for his trainer from the Vinery Stud draft, Keefy runs in the BK Racing colours for an ownership group that includes his breeders Raffles Thoroughbreds.

Keefy as a yearling.

Keefy settled last in the small field of three, but let down impressively for Ryan Maloney to win the 1200m dash going away by a length and a half.

Keefy is the first winner from metro winning Fastnet Rock mare Urban Rocker, a daughter of Group III winner Bhandara, who comes from the family of Group I winner Sharvasti.

While most Queensland juvenile winners at this time of year are thinking Magic Millions, David Vandyke may have to look further south for Inglis sales incentive races for this talented gelding.
