What Does a Good Tavistock Look Like?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 20

Time to move to New Zealand and focus on Karaka as we try to shed light on what the best progeny of a sire looked like as yearlings so we can maybe learn a lesson going forward, this time we take a look at Tavistock, who sadly passed away at the end of 2019.

It’s been a great season so far for Tavistock with five stakes-winners headed by Group I Victoria Derby winner Johnny Get Angry since August 1 last year and a further 11 stakes horses!

A superior classic sire that has left six Group I winners, four of them Derby and Oaks winners in Australia, Tavistock appeals to a particular buyer looking for that quality three year-old with scope to stay.

From our data base of images we have put together a selection Tavistock stakes-winners pictured as yearlings that offer some real insight into his offspring.

Very true to type, they are all bay or brown, stand over plenty of ground and are invariably leggy and athletic as you would expect of a sire whose best progeny really only hit their peak at 1600m and beyond.

Below are all the Tavistock Karaka yearlings with images currently uploaded, which ones are the stakes-winners of the future?
