Waterhouse and her then syndicator Star Thoroughbreds paid just $130,000 for Sebring back in 2007, but the champion trainer and a syndicate of investors including Blue Sky Bloodstock and Aquis Farm had to go to $1.3 million to secure his brother from the draft of Corumbene Stud.
A dark brown in colour, in stark contrast to Sebring's glowing chestnut coat, the star son of More Than Ready (USA) impressed Waterhouse from the first time she saw him.
"We identified him very early on as a horse we wanted," said Adrian Bott when interviewed for Sky Racing.
"We liked him from the first time we saw him at the farm, so have had plenty of time to get the right people together to buy him and his breeder George Altomonte will also be keeping a share."
He is the tenth foal of Flying Spur mare Purespeed, who has also left Group II winner Pureness and Group I placed Falkenberg in addition to Champion 2YO Sebring, who is having a great sale at Magic Millions with progeny selling for up to $600,000.
Purespeed produced a filly last year for Corumbene Stud and was then covered again by More Than Ready.
