Victorians Fly The Flag in Blue Diamond

Mark Smith - Friday February 19

Victorian-based stallions are well represented in Saturday’s $1,500,000 Group 1 Neds Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

Nine of the 16 acceptors were sired by stallions who stood in Victoria at the time of their conception. And seven of the runners are bred by Victorian breeders, including three Victorian home breds.

Written Tycoon filly Enthaar is a short-priced favourite for the Blue Diamond

The Victorian Connection:

General Beau –

Sire: Brazen Beau

Bred: Contract Racing

Sales info: Homebred

This strapping son of Brazen Beau has won three of his four starts including the divisions of the Blue Diamond Prelude and Preview.

Bred and raced by David and Jenny Moodie and Nick and Gayle Psaltis, General Beau is the second winner from four to race out of the lightly raced Lonhro mare Phosphorescence.

David Moodie’s Contract Racing bred and raced the 1996 Blue Diamond hero Paint.

Ingratiating

Sire: Frosted

Bred: Godolphin VIC

Sales info: Homebred

This son of Frosted (USA) is coming off a win in the Listed Talindert Stakes, which has been won in the last two years by Ole Kirk and Microphone.

Chased hard when second to Enthaar in the Group III Chairman’s Stakes.

Ingratiating is the fourth winner from as many foals to race out of Lonhro’s Group II ATC Light Fingers Stakes and Group III San Domenico Stakes winning daughter Obsequious.

The winner of the Group III Maribyrnong Stakes at Flemington and Gold Nugget at the Gold Coast where he defeated Shaquero, Finance Tycoon has not raced since a troubled sixth in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

Finance Tycoon is the first winner for Darook Park, a winning half-sister by Darci Brahma to Group I placed Silk Pins and to the dam of Group II winner Gypsy Diamond.

Pegasi

Sire: Star Turn

Bred: Rob Harding Vic

Sales info: Purchased by McEvoy Mitchell Racing / Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) for $80,000 out of the Sledmere Stud draft at the Classic Yearling Sale.

Pegasi defeated the promising Lightsaber in a Geelong maiden before travelling to Sydney to finish third behind the Mick Price-trained flyer Profiteer in the valuable Inglis Millennium.

Anamoe

Sire: Street Boss

Bred: Godolphin NSW

Sales info: Homebred

Narrowly beaten by General Beau in the Blue Diamond Prelude at his most recent start, Anamoe won the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes in November.

He is a son of Street Boss (USA) who sired last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up Hanseatic.

Anamoe is a half-brother to Irish stakes-winner Anamba and is the fourth winner from Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Anamato (Redoute’s Choice).

Abseiler

Sire: Extreme Choice

Bred: Ms L Dillon Vic

Sales info: Purchased by Kennewell Racing/Group 1 Bloodstock out of the Western Breeders Alliance at the Perth Yearling Sale

A son of the 2016 Blue Diamond winner Extreme Choice, Abseiler made a winning debut at Flemington on January 9 and was far from disgraced when fourth in the Blue Diamond Preview won by General Beau.

Jigsaw

Sire: Manhattan Rain

Bred: Lynne Alderson

Sales info: Homebred

This son of Blue Gum Farm’s Manhattan Rain romped home by three and a quarter lengths on debut at Geelong.

He was a fighting third in the Blue Diamond Prelude won by General Beau.

Jigsaw is the second winner from Demandz, a winning Lonhro daughter of stakes-winner Loaded Command.

Dosh (scratched)

Sire: Rich Enuff

Bred: Glenlogan

Sales info: Purchased by Grahame Begg for $155,000 at the Classic Yearling Sale

Sadly this fleet-footed daughter of Woodside Park Stud’s Rich Enuff was scratched on veterinary advice.

Enthaar

Sire: Written Tycoon

Bred: Emirates Park

Sales info: Homebred

Went straight to the top of the two-year-old rankings with a breathtaking performance in the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained daughter of Written Tycoon looked to be toying with the opposition in the Group III Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield.

Enthaar is the second foal and first to race out of the Not A Single Doubt mare Final Agreement a sister to Group 1 winner Secret Agenda.

The one to beat.

Arcaded

Sire: Street Boss

Bred: Godolphin VIC

Sales info: Homebred

The Godolphin Street Boss (USA) filly Arcaded spanked them in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for fillies at Caulfield after making a winning debut at Caulfield on January 13.

She is the first foal of the Lonhro mare Gloriette who placed in the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate and Listed MVRC Valley Pearl.

A leading chance

Wolves

Sire: Wolf Cry

Bred: Larnuek

Sales info: Homebred

Wolves is a great advertisement for her Larneuk Stud-based first season stallion Wolf Cry.

The Greg Eurell-trained filly finished solidly when third in the Blue Diamond Prelude (F) after a troubled run.
