Premier First Season Sires – Almanzor Tops the List

Another major Australian yearling sale and another dominant showing from Cambridge Stud shuttler Almanzor (Fr), who had four yearlings average $182,500 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Victoria this week.

$360,000 Almanzor colt from Angel in Bluejeans.

He also had the single highest result for a first season sire with his colt from stakes-placed Angel in Bluejeans making $360,000 for Bhima Thoroughbreds when knocked down to Gelagotis Racing / James Bester / Osher Group.

The Champion European 3YO of 2016 and the best offspring to date of Wootoon Bassett, who now stands at Coolmore Ireland, Almanzor has been the leading first season sire by average at every major Australasian sale this year.

Sun Stud’s Snitzel stallion Thronum only had one yearling offered in Book 1, but he made a great impression selling for $200,000. Consigned by Sun Stud and bought by Rich River Meat Exports Pty Ltd, he is the second foal of Thorsborne, a full sister to Group II winner Diamond Tathagata and half-sister to stakes-winner Ancestry.

Thronum also had six yearlings sell in the Showcase Session at an average $35,417.

$250,000 Pariah colt from We Betcha.

Arrowfield Stud’s Pariah made his mark with eight yearlings averaging $163,750, his best result a colt from We Betcha that made $250,000 for Springmount when bought by Griffiths de Kock Racing / Peter Ford T'Breds (FBAA) / Heywood Bloodstock.

$225,000 Churchill colt from Belle Famille.

Coolmore shuttler Churchill (IRE) had some strong results with four yearlings averaging $162,500, his best result a colt from stakes-placed Belle Famille (IRE) that made $225,000 for Blue Gum Farm when bought by Lindsay Park Racing.

$240,000 Impending filly from Legcut.

Darley Victoria’s Impending had big numbers at the sale and was the most successful Victorian based first season sire by three or more sold. He had 15 yearlings average $99,633 and made a big splash with his filly from Legcut that made $240,000 for Shadow Hill Thoroughbreds when bought by John Sadler Racing.

$180,000 Russian Revolution colt from Pink Perfection.
Newgate Farm’s Russian Revolution was the leading first season sire by aggregate with 15 yearlings selling for $1,625,000 at an average $108,333. His top seller was a colt from Pink Perfection that made $180,000 for Yulong when bought by Simple Bloodstock Services.

$210,000 Merchant Navy colt from Pentolite.
Not far behind was Coolmore’s Merchant Navy who had 14 yearlings sell for $1,502,500 at an average $107,321. His top seller was a colt from Pentolite that made $210,000  for Diamond Park Breeding and Racing when bought by Laming Racing.
